In November 2014 Twitter announced plans to enable users to “record, edit and share your own videos natively…”
Ahead of further details being announced, there is much speculation as to how the service will work and how it might complete with YouTube as the new fascility will give users the option of posting longer videos directly onto the Twitter site.
Techcrunch reports that the Twitter Video player will support videos of up to 10 minutes which can be tweeted directly to followers. Initially there will not be editing or scheduling facilities and Twitter video player will not support videos hosted on other platforms. It will be interesting to see how the technology is used by professional and citizen journalists in the coming months.
