An invited audience of 60 young people gathered to ask questions at Sky’s Live 2015 Leadership debate yesterday, with further live coverage of online questions for 15 minutes after each interview. David Cameron, Ed Miliband, Nick Clegg and Natalie Bennett all took part, with Nigel Farage invited but unable to attend. Interviews were streamed live on Sky’s ‘Stand Up and be Counted’ Facebook page which is aimed at engaging young people with politics.
The event wasn’t a ‘head to head’, but rather separate interviews chaired by Faisal Islam with intermediate analysis lead by Sky News presenter, Jayne Secker. The event was reported on by Mashable, who have also produced a helpful list of links to the main political parties Twitter, Facebook and YouTube accounts. With a reported 66% of adults using social media (figures from Mashable), the impact of social media on the outcome of this election will be bigger than ever before.
