Google Maps is now 10 years old and Recode have marked the anniversary with this piece about the launch and development of the tool that it’s now hard to imagine living without.

Aleks Krotoski also marks the event with her Guardian Tech Weekly podcast which looks at Google’s mapping initiatives and where maps might be going next.

Also published by The Guardian is this fascinating piece with Eliot Higgins (also known as Brown Moses), of Bellingcat. In the filmed interview he offers a detailed explanation of how he uses Google Earth and other open source technology, to track artillery fire from Russia into Ukrainian territory and identify the weapons employed.
