Virtual Reality to Push Limits of Journalism

The rise of virtual reality as a powerful tool for realising journalism continues with the announcement of a range of nine new VR experiences being premiered soon at the Sundance Film Festival.

Amongst the projects profiled in this SingularityHUB piece is Project Syria from Nonny de la Peña which offers immersive insights on the, “one million children who have fled Syria - news reports indicate children are being specifically targeted in the violence. By combining pioneering virtual reality technologies with audio and video captured during a real event, audiences feel transported to the powerful scene, becoming witnesses as the intense tragedy unfolds”.

Other projects mentioned include the 1979 Revolution Game which, “immerses players into the gritty, euphoric streets of revolution – where the choices you make may betray you. Set in the actual events of 1979 Iran”.
