Police in Roswell, New Mexico are investing in 3D imaging devices from tech company FARO to help in recreating crime scenes as measurable 3D images. Both Motherboard and Techcrunch report on how 3D images can provide new ways for investigators and courtrooms to preserve and analyse scenes of crime or accidents.
The technology can produce images which are accurate down to millimeters and can be viewed from any angle. FARO have made an interesting interactive guide to established uses of their equipment which covers industrial, medical and educational sectors as well as forensics analysis. The guide doesn’t yet include journalism, but Radar wonders if there could be some interesting uses of this technology in the reporting from scenes of dramatic events.
