Fusion - News for the Millennial Generation

From ABC and Univision comes Fusion, the so called Frankenbaby of news, that wants to engage with a millennial multi-ethnic audience of 18 to 34 year olds.

Fusion describe themselves as, “a multi-platform media company that serves a young, diverse, and inclusive millennial generation across its television and digital platforms (fusion.net). Fusion delivers a unique mix of news, pop culture, and comedy content that is both smart and irreverent. Fusion was launched as a joint venture between Univision Communications Inc. and the Disney/ABC Television Network on October 28, 2013. Fusion has agreements with several major distributors to carry the cable network including DirecTV, Dish, Cablevision, Charter, Cox, AT&T U-Verse, Verizon FiOS and Google Fiber as well as OTT providers including Apple TV.

That offer includes everything from the ‘Walter Cronkite of Latino America’ Jorge Ramos as lead anchor, through counter cultural cartoonist Molly Crabapple on ‘How ‘broken windows’ policing harms people of color’, via the satirical puppetry of ‘No You Shut Up’. What is certain is that 34% of millennials watch no broadcast television - so Fusion is hoping that it can stem that trend and bring youthful eyeballs back in line with old media’s dreams of selling.
