Kicking off #newsHACK VIII - the News Industry Accelerator

We are in Shoreditch today and tomorrow for the eigth edition of BBC #newsHACK, which name is The News Industry Accelerator.

As always, we’re partnering with Connected Studio for the organisation of the event, and we’re also joined by Global Editors Network, as we were last year in Dublin and Glasgow.

The challenge addresses collaboration between newsrooms and journalists:

What might we create together, to improve the NEWS industry for UK & global publishers?

And to do so, we invited the whole London scene to hack for a couple of days:

Today is mostly about hacking, punctuated by a couple of presentations by our other partners Google and Associated Press, with a collective wrap-up around 6pm. The day will start early tomorrow and will end mid-afternoon with the 5 minutes pitches and the judging taking place - before we all get a celebration drink together!

GEN will invite its winning team to the Barcelona Finals (“a Woodstock for geeks,” according to GEN’s Évangeline de Bourgoing), and we will also choose a winner and provide support from both the BBC and Goldsmiths University to build an alpha version of their idea.
